Adequate sleep is often overlooked as part of a weight loss program. Seven to eight hours of sleep should be a goal for everyone, whether they’re trying to lose weight or not. When you’re not getting proper rest, your body’s energy is sapped. You’re less productive, less likely to exercise, and more likely to feel hungry and overeat. This will hamper anything you’re trying to accomplish, including losing weight. Eight hours of sleep will combat all of this. Set a regular time to go to bed and to wake up each day. You’ll be shocked at the difference regular sleep makes in your motivation–and your weight loss!
Along with getting regular amounts of good sleep, getting up right away can also help you keep energy levels high all day. You can actually train yourself to feel more awake and energetic. The first step is to stop laying around in bed when you’re not sleeping. Your body needs to understand that when you’re in bed, it’s time to sleep, and when you’re up, it’s time to be awake. Hitting snooze two or three (or 10!) times messes up that education process. The body gets confused, making you feel tired when you don’t want to be. It also makes the next night’s sleep more restless, continuing the cycle. This is a Fast Break that can be tough at the beginning, but by the end of two weeks, you’ll feel refreshed in the morning and more active all day.
Telling others about your weight loss goal makes you more accountable and more determined. Amazingly, many people never tell a single person (not even a spouse) about their goals. Many are afraid of what others will say. They don’t realize the positive response they will receive. Most likely, you’ll find people eager to help and keep you motivated. Try starting small by mentioning it to just one person, be it a spouse, family member, friend or mentor. All it takes is a minute. Their motivation could be the difference this time.
Journals are easy ways to track what you eat and to record daily exercise. More importantly, they allow you to express your feelings. Many times, we keep thoughts and feelings to ourselves, afraid to share. Journals can be a non-threatening answer. Keep it in a regular place in the house, or carry it around so it’s accessible at any moment. You may discover that you’re eating too much, that you’re eating when you’re upset, or the reasons you want to lose weight in the first place. And there’s no time requirement. If you only write for 30 seconds, that’s fine. It’s the act of writing out your thoughts and feelings that’s important.
If you find yourself feeling really uninspired or particularly down on your body, try shifting your focus to self-appreciation. Instead of beating yourself up for not losing a pound this week, be grateful for how your body moves and all the things it does for you. Shift your focus from how you look to how you function and cultivate gratitude for your senses, your limbs, your ability to dance, walk, and run.
If you can’t have dessert, you’ll want it all the more. So instead of eliminating it, just limit it. Let yourself have a bite. Otherwise you’ll just eat everything else! Telling yourself you can’t have something just feels terrible. It’s a punishment and it starts the negative thinking train rolling down the tracks. The truth is a bite of that cake won’t make you gain weight — but three pieces will. So load up on your steamed veggies for dinner and sneak a taste of your friend’s dessert while she’s not looking. The massive amount of cauliflower you just ingested proves you deserve it.
Rewards are an important part of reaching goals, no matter if they’re small, medium or large. Sometimes, you need a little extra incentive to keep pushing; this is it. Pick a reward that is important to you, something you really want. Something that’ll make you do things you normally might not. Something you may even daydream about. Rewarding hard work is a habit everyone should have, regardless of their goals. Enjoy picking your own rewards. Then keep them in mind as you pursue your nutrition and fitness goals.

Can you imagine walking every day carrying 12 bottle of olive oil ?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words! build a personal weight loss motivation gallery on instagram tracking your progress ! Weight loss is not just about what your scale tells you, as building muscle will slow down the numbers on the scale but actually become an ally in melting fat and lasting weight change! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Whether you fall behind in your workout schedule, or indulge in an unplanned ice cream cone, little hiccups along the way are natural and to be expected. Losing weight is one benefit of a fit and healthy lifestyle but so is a more energetic outlook!
When you need a jolt of inspiration, a personal quote or motto is the perfect remedy. A motto only takes three seconds to read but can have lasting effects on your mood and performance. “It’s always too early to quit,” is just one example of thousands. Finding a lot of strong quotes is easy. Go to the bookstore and leaf through a quote book, or do a little searching on the Internet, and you’ll find plenty to choose from. You can look for a particular theme or choose from numerous quotes from a favorite writer, historical figure or celebrity, depending on what inspires you. Read one every day and soon you’ll find yourself craving them, anticipating the buzz it will provide you.
Sometimes, we get down on ourselves. It can happen in the blink of an eye. Your boss criticizes a project, a friend cancels on lunch, or just a random rush of disappointments that can come at any time. When this happens, combat it with a 5-minute mental pep-talk. You need these occasionally to stay positive and to stay with your nutritional and fitness goals. It’s convenient because you know when the pep talk is needed; there’s no mistaking these moments. With a pep talk, you can rid yourself of that negative self-talk and get back on the right track.
So you’ve set some goals. Now what? One technique that can help you reach your goals is to first write them down, and then post them where you’ll see them most: on the bathroom mirror, next to your computer, on the refrigerator—even in your car. Posting your goals will serve as a reminder for what you want to achieve, and keep your goals in the forefront of your mind. Then, when you’re faced with a temptation, you’ll be thinking about your goals and hopefully make the right choices throughout the day.

Find ways to channel your emotions
When we are happy, we eat. When we are sad, stressed or frustrated we eat. When we have nothing better to do, we eat. Unfortunately, when dieting, alternative methods of feeling must be used!
Start thinking about when and why you eat, not just what. Maybe you always eat mindlessly when you’re watching television, or maybe you go straight to the fridge when you’re stressed. When you become aware of your patterns, it becomes easier to determine the cause. Start by keeping your hands busy like painting, knitting, reading, or doing a word puzzle can keep you from grabbing the popcorn.
